Cape Recife Nature Tour Overview

Gqeberha, is fondly known as the “Friendly City”, which is situated in the adventurous Eastern Cape Province and is South Africa’s second-oldest city. Visitors to Gqeberha will gain insight into the city’s diverse and remarkable past when going on a city tour, as it is rich in history and culture – dating back to the 1820 British Settlers.

Visitors can look forward to catching a glimpse of the following highlights: The Campanile, City Hall, Public Library, Feather Market Centre, Market Square, Fort Frederick, Donkin Reserve, Lighthouse and some of Route 67’s public artwork that is dedicated to late Nelson Mandela including various sightings of architectural delights.

After the city tour, we proceed to Cape Recife Nature Reserve. This reserve covers 366 hectares which boast spectacular views, a stunning beach, rolling dunes, coastal fynbos, marine birdlife, rock pools, and a 133-year-old lighthouse beckon. The tern roost at Cape Recife is the best place in the country to see Roseate Tern. Seven species of tern are found here including Roseate tern, Antarctic tern, and the occasional Damara tern. SANCCOB, a nonprofit organization that rescues, rehabilitated, and releases ill, injured, abandoned, and oiled sea birds particularly African Penguins is also located inside this reserve.
